Azizahemadkhan Firozkhan Sindhi, Deputy superintendent of Police (Retd) who was decorated with the President of India’s Indian Police Medal for Distinguished Services on 1st April 2016 took birth in the Mahdavi community of Palanpur City (Palanpur, The Princely State.) (north Gujarat) on 20th October, 1957.

After completing his education, Mr. Sindhi joined the Gujarat Police force in the year 1978 as a direct Sub-Inspector of Police and rose to the rank of DySP due to his dedicated, sincere and hard work along with unblemished service record. He was conferred with the President’s Police Medal for ‘Meritorious Services’ on Independence Day  in 1998. As a Police Sub-Inspector, he served at many places across the state including Vadodara - Baroda and Ahmedabad, India. He was also selected to perform the ‘Spotter Duty’ for late Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi at New Delhi in 1985. Mr. Sindhi was on duty in the Ahmedabad Crime Branch Office from 1994 to 1997.

Mr. Sindhi has achieved more than 300 rewards including cash rewards totalling Rs2.50 lakhs from the Government of Gujarat and has also earned credits from senior police officials.
During the communal riots that broke out throughout the state of Gujarat in 2002, Mr Sindhi was posted at Bharuch city, traditionally one of the hyper sensitive cities with a long history of communal flare-ups. Thanks to Mr. Sindhi’s proactive policing, complete peace and tranquility was maintained in his entire jurisdiction.

When Mr Sindhi was in the Anti Corruption Bureau - Ahmedabad (ACB), he made six cases pertaining to disproportionate assets (DA) against various officials working in different departments of the Government and found to have amassed illegal wealth through corrupt practices. Two of these cases ended up in conviction. These were the first cases in which convictions were procured by ACB in DA cases. During his ACB stint, he also made out eight successful trap cases under the Anti-Corruption Act.

When Mr Sindhi was DySP, Rajkot, Gujarat, he carried out frequent visit to Dalit Mohallas and took keen interest to find out atrocity prone areas, as a result of which atrocity incidents drastically reduced by 25% in comparison with the previous years of 2008 and 2009 in Rajkot, Gujarat rural district. Ambardi village of Jasdan taluka was prone to communal clashes between Dalits and upper castes. Due to frequent communal clashes, Hon’ble Gujarat High Court had ordered to set up a permanent police check post at the village. However, when Mr Sindhi was posted at Jasdan, he undertook painstaking and relentless efforts to bring to an end long pending grudges amongst two different communities. Because of his endeavours, peace and tranquillity finally returned and a police check post which was in existence for almost 14 years was withdrawn. Mr. Sindhi’s efforts in building up bridges between communities and removing misunderstandings were appreciated, lauded and commended by one and all.
After that Mr Sindhi was posted as DySP ATS, Gujarat State, Ahmedabad. He got this posting to control and prevent terror activities in the state.

Mr. Sindhi was honoured with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to the nation on Republic Day of 2012.  On 1st April, 2016, for his excellent service to the nation, Mr. Sindhi was awarded the same by Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat Omprakash Kohli in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt Anandiben Patell at the Police Academy Karai near Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
